Description
Richard Ludel, ten-year-old son of Richard Ludel, becomes the new lord at Eaton. The boy's grandmother wishes him to make a marriage of convenience but he defies her. Cuthred, a hermit, has taken up residence in Eyton Forest with a young companion, Hyacinth, who befriends Richard. Richard disappears and a corpse is found in the forest.
